The directive was contained in an official circular issued to key education stakeholders across the state, including the Executive Chairman of TESCOM, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Permanent Secretaries, Tutor Generals, Zonal Directors, Local Inspectors of Education, principals of public and private schools, principals of technical colleges, as well as head teachers in Oyo State.

According to the circular signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. B.T. Oyinloye, the decision became necessary in order to safeguard the lives of students and school staff amid the current security situation in the state.

The ministry stated that all school administrators are expected to comply strictly with the directive until further notice.

“In view of the recent security concerns, the Ministry is taking steps to safeguard the lives of students and members of staff in all schools in Oyo State,” the circular stated.

It further directed that all excursions, field trips, sports competitions, and any activities requiring students to move outside school premises should be suspended immediately.

The ministry also noted that any previous approvals granted for such activities have been overridden by the new directive.

“The safety of our children is non-negotiable and takes precedence over all academic and extracurricular activities,” the circular added.

School administrators were equally advised to ensure that students remain within school premises during school hours and to promptly report any suspicious activities around schools to security agencies within their areas.

The government emphasized that the directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force pending an improvement in the security situation across the state.

Authorities also called for strict compliance from all schools and education stakeholders.
