The ancient town of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, came alive today as dignitaries, cultural enthusiasts, and thousands of guests gathered for the colourful celebration of the annual Ojude Oba Festival.
Among the notable personalities present at the prestigious cultural event were the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, who both arrived at the festival venue to witness the rich display of Yoruba heritage and tradition.
The festival, renowned for its elegance and cultural significance, featured different age-grade groups and families making grand entrances in luxurious traditional attires, including flowing agbadas, beautifully crafted geles, and intricately beaded accessories that reflected the richness of Yoruba culture.
Ojude Oba, traditionally held on the third day after Eid-el-Kabir, attracts thousands of visitors yearly, including politicians, celebrities, business leaders, and members of the Nigerian diaspora, all united in celebrating the identity, unity, and cultural pride of the Ijebu people.
However, this year’s edition carried a solemn atmosphere as it marked the first celebration without the presence of the revered Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away in July last year after an extraordinary 65-year reign.
Despite his absence, the spirit and legacy of the late monarch remained evident throughout the festival, as attendees honoured the enduring traditions and cultural values he helped preserve for decades.
