The Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has successfully conducted its governorship primary election ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
The primary election, which involved delegates and party stakeholders from across Oyo State, was conducted across the 351 wards in the state and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Oyo State Primary Elections Committee that supervised the exercise was chaired by Harrison Akpojaro, with Mohammed Shaba serving as Secretary.
Other members of the committee included Kafilat Omolabake, Mavis Ujumor, and Aderonke Adedoja.
At the end of the exercise, the committee announced the following results:
1. Oyebisi Luqmon Ilaka — 90 votes
2. Azeez Adeduntan — 500 votes
3. Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke — 987 votes
4. Niyi Aborisade — 4,307 votes
5. Gbemileke Alagbe — 15,107 votes
Following the collation of results from the wards, the Oyo State Primary Elections Committee declared Dr. Gbemileke Alagbe, popularly known as “Eleniyan” as the winner of the primary election and the duly elected ADC governorship candidate for Oyo State.
Dr. Alagbe, who hails from Ogbomoso South Local Government Area in Oyo North Senatorial District, defeated other aspirants by a wide margin to secure the party’s governorship ticket.
Party officials described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible, while members and supporters expressed optimism ahead of the governorship election.
The leadership of the party also commended delegates, aspirants, and supporters for their orderly conduct throughout the primary process.
