Makinde Declares Interest in 2027 Presidential Race

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has strengthened opposition collaboration ahead of the 2027 general elections through a new alliance with the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).

The two opposition parties on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in what political observers describe as a strategic move ahead of the next election cycle.

The agreement was signed by Seyi Bamidele on behalf of the PDP faction and Oladele Oyadeji for the APM.

Governor Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, also endorsed the agreement on behalf of both parties.

The development comes amid growing political realignments in Oyo State and within the PDP at the national level, following lingering internal crises within the opposition party.

The alliance is also coming on the heels of Governor Makinde’s declaration of interest in the 2027 presidential race, a move that has sparked fresh conversations within Nigeria’s political space.

Political analysts believe the declaration positions the Oyo governor as one of the early contenders in the build-up to the 2027 presidential election, while the partnership with the APM may further strengthen his political structure ahead of the polls.

The collaboration is expected to reshape political calculations in Oyo State and potentially influence opposition dynamics nationwide as preparations for 2027 gather momentum.
