Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved the substantive appointment of Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as the Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo (RUGIPO).
Dr. Adegun had been serving in an acting capacity since October 2024 before his confirmation.
Committee Set Up for Minimum Wage Review
The governor also approved the constitution of a committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage at the institution.
The move followed engagements between the polytechnic management and labour unions over the harmonization of staff salary structures.
The committee is chaired by Olaolu Akindolire, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

- Olaleye Phillips
- Asonja Oluwole Festus
- Abiodun Ogunduboye
The committee is expected to work closely with the institution’s management, labour unions, and relevant government agencies to audit payroll data, address discrepancies, and recommend a sustainable salary structure.
Salary Arrears Cleared
In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved the payment of three months’ outstanding salary arrears owed to workers of the institution.
The move is aimed at stabilizing the institution and boosting staff morale.
Commitment to Workers’ Welfare
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and the effective functioning of state-owned tertiary institutions.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, stated that resolving salary issues was crucial to restoring confidence among both academic and non-academic staff.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on April 15, 2026.
