PFN Declares Three-Day Nationwide Fasting and Prayer for Nigeria Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has announced a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme in response to the growing insecurity, economic hardship, bloodshed, and political uncertainty facing the nation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The spiritual exercise is scheduled to hold from May 22 to May 24, 2026, with the aim of seeking divine intervention for peace, healing, national stability, economic recovery, and credible elections in Nigeria.

According to reports, the decision was reached during a meeting of the Fellowship’s National Executive Council and was made public in a statement signed by the PFN National Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Ukafia.

The Fellowship explained that the initiative followed extensive prayerful deliberations on the current state of the nation and the urgent need for the Church to rise in unity during this critical period in Nigeria’s history.

“This is a defining moment for the Church to rise in unity and intercession for the nation,” the statement read.

The PFN expressed deep concern over the persistent violence across different parts of the country, attacks on communities and places of worship, as well as the worsening economic conditions affecting millions of Nigerians.

The body emphasized its belief that united prayers by Christians across the country would attract God’s intervention and usher Nigeria into a new season of peace, healing, stability, and hope.

The prayer programme will also coincide with the observance of Global Pentecost Day and will be anchored on the biblical passage in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which calls on believers to humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn away from wrongdoing so that the land may be healed.

According to the schedule released by the Fellowship:

  • Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, 2026 will be dedicated to fasting and prayers in homes, churches, and local assemblies nationwide.
  • Sunday, May 24, 2026, being Global Pentecost Day, will feature a united national prayer gathering at designated venues across various states to conclude the programme.

The PFN stated that prayer points during the three-day programme will focus on:

  • Divine intervention for Nigeria
  • Restoration of peace and security
  • An end to bloodshed, terrorism, and criminality
  • Economic recovery and relief for citizens
  • Wisdom, unity, and direction for national leaders
  • Peaceful, free, and credible elections in 2027
  • The emergence of God-fearing and patriotic leaders

The Fellowship further described Nigeria as a nation blessed with immense potential and called on Christians across denominations to stand together in faith and intercession for the future of the country.

Pastors, church leaders, youths, women, workers, and Christian organisations were also encouraged to mobilise members and actively participate in the nationwide spiritual exercise.

As Nigeria continues to face challenging times, many citizens hope that this united prayer initiative will inspire peace, healing, and positive transformation across the nation.
