Award-winning Nigerian singer, Davido, has revealed that he is taking an indefinite break from music, telling fans not to expect new songs from him anytime soon.
The Afrobeats superstar made this known during a recent livestream session with popular content creator Davrel, where he explained that he is currently on a sabbatical from music despite his continued dominance in the entertainment scene.
According to the “OBO” crooner, he does not feel pressured to constantly release new songs to remain relevant in the industry, insisting that his existing catalogue is still dominating clubs and playlists across the country.
“Stop asking me when I am dropping new music. I am on a musical break. Like I said, if you go to the club right now, 10 out of 20 songs are mine. So I am on a musical break,” Davido stated.
The singer also shared his thoughts on the growing celebrity boxing trend in Nigeria, describing it as a positive and entertaining development within the entertainment industry.
“I am actually impressed by the celebrity boxing tournament. It is a welcome development,” he added.
Recall that popular streamer, Carter Efe, recently defeated controversial singer Portable to emerge as the new champion of the Nigerian celebrity boxing tournament.
Following his defeat, Portable accused several colleagues in the music industry of lacking support for him, claiming that many secretly dislike him.
Davido’s announcement has since sparked mixed reactions online, with fans expressing both concern and support for the singer’s decision to take a well-deserved break from music.
