A tragic incident has rocked the student community of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, as a 20-year-old student, Audi Emmanuel, was found dead in his room along Awolowo Road in Emure-Ile, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The deceased, who was reportedly studying Computer Engineering at the state-owned institution, was discovered hanging in his off-campus residence under circumstances that remain unclear.
A disturbing video circulating on Facebook, posted by a user identified as Alani Mi, showed the student’s lifeless body. In the footage, some individuals at the scene were seen covering their noses, suggesting that the body may have been there for some time before it was discovered.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that an investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of death.
“The Ondo State Police Command confirms the report of a suspected suicide incident at Emure-Ile involving a 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, who was found dead in his residence,” Jimoh said.
He added that police operatives promptly responded to the scene, where the body was recovered and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
“Preliminary observations suggest a case of suicide; however, a thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” he noted.
The police also extended condolences to the family of the deceased while urging members of the public to speak up and seek support during moments of emotional distress.
