President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Tegbe’s appointment is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation, following the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
Adelabu stepped down in March 2026 after declaring his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, in compliance with a directive requiring political appointees seeking elective office to resign.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over three decades of experience spanning both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led key initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating bilateral development efforts between Nigeria and China.
Tegbe also chaired the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee, inaugurated by the Federal Government in 2025 to drive reforms in the country’s tax system.
In addition, he has prior experience in the power sector, having worked on regulatory and institutional reforms with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
“The President expects the Minister-designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear in advancing critical reforms and delivering improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector,” the statement added.
