JAMB Sets May 11 to Decide 2026 Cut-Off Marks, Admission Guidelines

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced May 11, 2026, as the date for its highly anticipated policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The meeting, scheduled to hold in Abuja, will determine the minimum Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) cut-off marks and outline key admission guidelines for the 2026/2027 academic session.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the gathering will bring together major stakeholders in the education sector to shape the direction of the upcoming admission exercise.

According to the statement, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, is expected to unveil critical policy directions that will guide institutions throughout the admission process.

The meeting will include vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, and admission officers from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide. Representatives from regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) are also expected to attend.

JAMB emphasized that the policy meeting plays a crucial role in setting the tone for admissions, ensuring that institutions adhere strictly to approved guidelines while maintaining transparency and fairness in the process.

The board added that the forum will provide stakeholders an opportunity to review existing challenges in admissions and agree on strategies to improve efficiency for the upcoming academic session.

In addition, goodwill messages are expected from key institutions, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), highlighting the importance of coordinated planning in national education and manpower development.

A major highlight of the event will be the sixth edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NATAP-M), an initiative designed to promote compliance with admission policies and reward institutions that demonstrate transparency and excellence.

JAMB noted that the initiative has significantly strengthened adherence to admission guidelines and contributed to the growth of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

The outcome of the May 11 meeting is expected to serve as a framework for all tertiary institutions as they commence the 2026/2027 admission process.
