A member representing Oluyole State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Waheed Akintayo, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The resignation was made known through a formal letter dated May 2, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 4, Oluyole Local Government Area, Oyo State.
In the letter titled “Resignation and Request for Deletion of Personal Data,” Hon. Akintayo announced his immediate withdrawal from the party while also requesting that all his personal information be removed from the party’s records and databases.
According to the letter, Hon. Akintayo stated:
“Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately.”
He further requested that all his personal details, including his membership records, contact information, and photographs, be deleted from the party’s membership register, electronic databases, and official platforms.
Despite his resignation, the lawmaker expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities and experiences he gained during his time in the PDP, while wishing the party success in its future endeavors.
The development has generated reactions within the political space in Oyo State, particularly in Oluyole Local Government, where Hon. Waheed Akintayo remains a notable political figure and serving legislator.
Political observers believe the resignation may signal a new political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections, although the lawmaker is yet to officially announce his next political move or possible new party affiliation.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by the PDP leadership regarding the resignation.
