A tragic accident on Sunday claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl in Akungba-Akoko, located in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to reports gathered by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the incident occurred at Supare Junction along Supare Road.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the young girl was knocked down by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck.
“The Police Command in Ondo State regrets to confirm a fatal motor accident in Akungba-Akoko, resulting in the death of a nine-year-old girl,” Jimoh stated.
He explained that the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital after the accident but was sadly pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Jimoh further revealed that the driver of the truck has been arrested, while the vehicle has been recovered for inspection. He added that a full investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The police command also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that justice would be served.
He urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.
