Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has received a proposal to upgrade Rufus Giwa Polytechnic into a University of Agriculture, Science and Technology.
The development was disclosed in a statement shared via the state government’s official page , highlighting plans to reposition the institution to better meet evolving educational and developmental needs.
According to the governor, the proposed upgrade is a strategic initiative aimed at boosting growth in key sectors such as agriculture, science, and technology across the state.
He also emphasised the need to integrate innovation and emerging technologies into the education system, while calling for a carefully managed transition process to safeguard the interests of current students.
The proposal was presented by a committee led by Igbekele Ajibefun, who noted that the upgrade would help address the increasing demand for university education and enhance the institution’s global competitiveness.
“The upgrade will meet the rising demand for university education and position the institution for global competitiveness,” Ajibefun said.
The committee further disclosed that a draft law for the proposed upgrade is currently awaiting approval from the National Universities Commission.
