Popular social media critic and influencer, VeryDarkMan, has reacted strongly to the controversy surrounding an AI-generated audio allegedly linked to him, accusing the Presidency of focusing on social media issues while insecurity continues to worsen across the country.
The development follows a statement from the Presidency warning that VDM, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, could face prosecution over the circulation of a controversial audio clip allegedly mimicking President Bola Tinubu.
The viral clip, reportedly shared online by an X user identified as @Pious_minister, featured a voice resembling the President allegedly claiming that insecurity in Nigeria would persist because Nigerians did not vote for him during the 2023 presidential election.
Reacting in a video posted on his social media page, VeryDarkMan criticised presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, stating that he would not defend the controversial AI-generated audio.
The activist questioned why the Presidency had remained silent over recent security concerns, particularly reports of the abduction of teachers and students in parts of Oyo State.
According to him, national attention should be directed toward insecurity and the safety of citizens rather than online controversies.
VDM alleged that some of the kidnapped victims, including teachers and students, were still being held captive, expressing frustration over what he described as inadequate official response to the situation.
He also stressed that many Nigerians were more concerned about the worsening security situation and the protection of lives than political disputes on social media.
The controversy has since sparked widespread reactions online, with supporters and critics debating the role of AI-generated content, freedom of expression, and government response to misinformation and insecurity.
