Makinde Approves ₦10,000 Salary Top-Up for Oyo Workers

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has announced a ₦10,000 salary top-up for all workers in the state as part of measures to cushion the effects of the recent fuel price hike.

The governor made this known on Monday at a programme held in Ibadan, the state capital.

According to him, the allowance will commence in April and will last for an initial period of three months, with the possibility of extension depending on prevailing economic conditions.

Makinde stated that the support, which he described as petrol and transportation allowance, will be given to all workers in the state and local government at a flat rate.

“I’m happy to announce that all workers in Oyo State and the local government, starting from April, at least for the first three months, will be given ₦10,000 in addition to their monthly salary as petrol/transportation support. All workers, everybody. It is a flat rate. Maybe it would be extended,” he said.

The governor further hinted that individuals outside the state government workforce may also benefit from the initiative, noting that the government would ensure an inclusive process.

He added that as his administration winds down, his focus remains on policies that will ensure continuity and sustained support for residents of the state.
